Pocket Oral Pathology

Category: healthcare

I’m certainly not a developer, but rather a dental student.

It would be more useful for practicing dentists than for studying in all likelihood, but I think that the content would be best extracted from a textbook. Dentistry obviously has a heavy component of diagnosing diseases that present in the mouth but are often rare and many practicing dentists don’t maintain an encyclopedic knowledge of factors for differential diagnoses. Our Oral Pathology course instructors emphasize that pathologies in the oral cavity often have an associated site/color/morphology and then depending on sorting through other environmental/medical-history/symptom-related problems a likely diagnosis becomes apparent. That being said, it seems to me that an App that acts as a diagnostic funnel in flow chart format that is comprised by “if, then” type statements would be incredibly useful. A series of questions that would begin with color => size => site => morphology=> pain etc… that would filter out incompatible afflictions leading to a short list of probable causes with explanations on potential ways to proceed. This idea has been stewing in my mind for a while and so it makes worlds of sense to me, but it’s quite possible that I failed miserably to articulate it. Please let me know if you have any questions for me to clarify any statements or anything else. I think that this would be a big revenue generator and can’t imagine the programming to be highly complex (I guess it could be more so if you tried to incorporate statistics/likelihoods in a prioritized fashion) but I certainly do not have the skills or software to do it. Thank you for your time,
